Beautifully DIY

I caught a glimpse of these on TV. Trying them is another item on my To Do list. Soon, I'm sure...

HAIR CUTICLE COCKTAIL
(similar to Moroccan Oil)
1. In an empty squeeze bottle, add:
  • 1 tbsp Argan oil
  • 1 tbsp Macadamia Oil
  • 5 drops Almond Extract
  • 1 dropper of liquid Vitamin E
2. Place the top on the squeeze bottle and shake.
3. Apply the cocktail in small amounts to your hair before styling.
* This formula is not as thick as Moroccan Oil because it lacks heavy silicones. It's also dye free!
GRAPESEED SPRITZ
(refreshing facial spritz)
1. In a bowl, combine:
  • 1 cup mineral water
  • 2 droppers full of liquid resveratrol
2. Whisk the two together. Be sure to do this before adding the oils and glycerin because the resveratrol will not dissipate in oil.
3. Then add and whisk all together:
  • 4 tbsp grape seed oil
  • 1 tbsp Glycerin
  • 6 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 8 drops rosemary essential oil
4. Using a funnel, pour the mixture into a plastic spritz bottle.
5. Shake vigorously before each use.
6. Close your eyes and spritz away!
BERRY BRIGHTENING CONCOCTION
(face mask)
1. In a blender, add:
  • 1.5 tbsp fresh blueberries
  • 1.5 tbsp fresh blackberries
  • 1 tbsp glycerin
  • 3 drops lavender essential oil
  • 4 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
2. Blend together on high until the mixture is transformed into a pureƩ. You'll find that there will be a few seeds and berry peels in there, but these are small enough that you don't have to worry about them.
3. Place the puree in a large glass bowl.
4. Add:
  • 10 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
  • 2 Egg Whites
5. Whisk it all together until well blended. 6. Apply a thick layer to your face and neck. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well with water.
LIPS TO LUSH OVER
(lip balm)
1. Place a pot on the stove and fill with 2-3 inches of water.
2. Heat the water over low-medium heat.
3. In a double boiler combine (before placing over the pot):
  • 1 tbsp shea butter
  • 1 tbsp mango butter
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 tsp lanolin
  • 1 tbsp and 1 tsp Beeswax
  • 2 tsp Aloe Vera Juice
4. Place the double boiler bowl on the water, which should be well heated by this point.
5. Melt all the ingredients together gently (don't overheat it!). Use a whisk to stir.
6. Add 5 drops Vitamin E, then whisk.
7. Remove from heat, then add 6 drops peppermint essential oil. (*Make sure to add the oil after removing the mixture from heat. Otherwise, it will evaporate!)
8. Whisk it all together.
9. Place it into a container of your choice, and allow it to cool.
BA-NA-NA BOOSTER
(pre-shampoo treatment to fight frizz)
1. Smash up an entire banana (with skin, minus the stem) or pureƩ it in the blender.
2. Add coconut milk. Start with 2 tbsp and add more as you see fit.
3. Blend it all together until smooth.
4. Apply to mid lengths and ends of your frizz-prone hair before shampooing.
5. Rinse very well!
6. Shampoo and condition (if needed) as usual.
*Note: If you have fine hair, then skip the coconut milk!
BUCKTHORN BODY BUTTER
1. Place a pot on the stove and fill with 2-3 inches of water.
2. Heat the water over low-medium heat.
3. In a double boiler, combine (before placing in the pot):
  • 3 tbsp shea butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa butter
  • 4 tsp apricot oil
  • 1 tsp lanolin
  • 2 tsp sea buckthorn juice
  • 2 tsp glycerin
  • 3 tbsp beeswax
4. Place the double boiler bowl on the water, which should be well heated by this point.
5. Melt all the ingredients together gently (don't overheat it!). Use a whisk to stir.
6. Once the mixture has melted, add 3 tsp corn starch.
7. Whisk the corn starch in quickly. You may notice that the concoction starts to thicken at this point.
8. Remove the bowl from the heat, and place in an ice bath (large glass bowl filled half way with ice water)
9. While holding the boiler bowl afloat in the ice water with one hand, use the other hand to beat the body butter together with an electric hand mixer.
*The trick: As you are beating the mixture, you may notice that it doesn't seem to want to whip! Continuing to use the beater with one hand, use the hand that's holding the bowl to angle it in a way that allows a LITTLE bit of the ice-cold water into the bowl. Once the water comes into contact with the hot melted mixture, things begin to whip up just fine.
11. Once it's all whipped up, apply to your body butter instantly or place it in the refrigerator. (When removing it from the refrigerator for successive applications, be sure to give it time to soften before applying and you might need to stir!)
